Absolutely ridiculous that criminals are let off their jail sentences because there is no space left in the prisons.
BBC NEWS | Scotland | Tayside and Central | 'No room' in jail for fraudster While I am not advocating going back to Victorian conditions, maybe these prisoners should have to share with 3 or 4 people in cramped conditions. Get rid of all the TV rooms and snooker tables and put more beds there. Alternatively, maybe we should adopt what they do in, I think, Sweden (I know it is somewhere in Scandanavia). You get a jail sentence and serve it when a space becomes available, whether that be in a week or a few years down the line. FAiling that build more jails, especially so that you can lock up perverted vicars, with 57000 peado images, for more than 3.5 years. |

Tanny - to be honest I have no idea. I was just bouncing something around, rather than just let these criminals off scot free. But what you say is sort of summed up here: BBC NEWS | UK | Early release inmates on the run

Deportation of over 10,000 foreign prisoners would free up more space and then build Labour Camps (far cheaper than prisons) for the rest.

what was wrong with prison ships? were they too uncomfortable for the poor prisoners or did it abuse their civil rights!!!? Maybe they were too expensive - it always amazes me why these things are so expensive to run.
Why not have an open prison on one of the Shetland Islands? |

However those in for over say 5 years could be sent to work in Labour camps collonies in the Falklands and South Georgie. They could begain building for our future oil production in such areas.

BC, I like your thinking but I can see 2 problems:
1) I don't really like the idea of the Government setting up Labour Camps and taking jobs out from the free market (presuming that the contract did not go abroad) 2) unfortunately I think that someone might complain about visitor's rights. |
