There are many in all political parties that support EU reform. If UKIP also took the reformist route why would those people change their voting habit. I joined UKIP because I thought its whole philosophy is founded upon EU withdrawal, not reform. The EU cannot and will not be reformed. There may be delays, but inevitably the greater EU plan will always go forward. Unless UKIP has the courage and strategic knowledge to make the case for UK withdrawal from the EU then UKIP has no desisive USP and will therefore never offer the British public an alternative vision.
The Torys are positioning themselves for next years EU elections and are considering giving the British Public a vote on the Lisbon Treaty even if the Irish give a Yes is a second vote before a UK General Election. They want to gain more EU seats as well as ensure they win handsomely at the next GE. Of course we know the Torys are not for withdrawal but for reform. Even if the UK were given the referendum on the LT and gave a NO vote that is not withdrawal but reform. UKIP's only hope in gaining power, if that is what it really wants, is to make the case for withdrawal. If not then we are simply a pressure group. The british public have to be given a clear vision of how the UK will prosper outside of the EU. We have to present to them how we will deliver a better quality of life for the British people, no one else. If we cant then why would someone vote for a party that just knocks other parties strategies. |

Penguin, you say the EU can't be reformed, but anything can be reformed. You just need the will and the way! The three major parties are hopelessly out of touch. They say they want no truck with a United States of Europe but they sign up to everything going. UKIP wants out but says it wants European co-operation and trade. Only a lunatic wants the drawbridge pulled up.
Just to repeat, I voted NO in the only referendum we had. Unlike myopic present-day Ukippers, I saw the legalistic threats in the Treaty of Rome. However, now is now and then was then. Given a referendum almost every country in the EU would say NO to the Commission's grandiose plans. Rather than acting as cupboard-rattlers, we should work with people who want to transform the EU into something else. All eurosceptics want the same thing - an end to the EU interference and meddling. Let's have a non-EU Europe of Nation states, all working in harmony. |
