Why should we bother to have a membership vote after the enhanced CRB checks if the votes become meaningless because the Brussels contingent don't like who the membership voted for? Even though the vote was allowed to take place although the rules regarding dual candidature were clearly broken, and known about in advance?
Or is this to become a one man, one vote regime? with one man having the vote.
It seems you and Annabelle (has she been re-employed?) know more about this than the unpaid, non-foreign resident, members.
There is precedent: Janet Girsman was disqualified in 2000, after the membership voted and the result was announced.

I was, perhaps stupidly, assuming that the lessons from 2004 had been learned.
If not, why not?
Are the changes in the list due to the CRB checks or (And I would bet a large amount of change on this one) are they due to candidates not obeying the rules, as enforced or ignored according to the leaderships wishes?

If it was a requirement, that prospective MEP candidates produced documentary evidence as to their character from the CRB, was Marta Andreasen able to fulfil that requirement? UKIP members who are resident abroad cannot vote, are we to assume foreign residents are able to be UKIP MEP candidates, and even given an exemption by the Party from criminal security checks?

From Cranks and Gadflies, by Mark Daniels, published in 2005:

Quote:
A new recruit to the party immediately before the election was one Ashley Mote, who was to play a sorry part in UKIP's greatest triumph to date. Mote is an author and former 'communications specialist' and marketing man whose company foundered in the wake of the ERM debacle. ... Mote is a constitutionalist and a historian of cricket, and was already a familar, if unobtrusive figure at UKIP conferences and meetings. Now he started working for advancement within the party, and, with West Country former policeman Trevor Colman, was to produce a series of influential videos about the EU.
and
Quote:
On the afternoon of 10 June, an exhausted and personally disappointed David Lott dispatched a last message of thanks to all UKIP activists, and went off to sleep.

Lott's disappointment sprang from his replacement as principal candidate on the voting list for the South East region. Ashley Mote, perhaps a more prepossessing speaker and tried researcher but a relative newcomer, had taken that place. Ever loyal, and ever obedient to the democratic will, Lott accepted this verdict.

Had he know that, as has since been widely alleged and as he has since come to believe, the listing had been adjusted at the behest of, or, at least, under the influence of, those whom he had served for so long, he would have been deeply hurt. Had he known that, the previous day, without bothering to inform the party though specifically asked about current proceedings on his candidacy form, Ashley Mote had been to court to be arraigned for housing benefit fraud, and that, had Mote elected to reveal the fact even at that late hour, the listing could have been readjusted, he would, with good reason, have been livid. Party regulations insisted that canddiates inform the leaders about any outstanding legal proceedings. Mote had omitted to do so.

'Ashley was working in the same building in Bramshott', he says. 'That day, he turned up late, and didn't bother to tell us that the reason was that he had been in court, facing charges which would automatically have removed him from the candidates' list. Whether this was shyness, or whether because he intended to claim exemption as an MEP in the European courts, who can say? All I know is that the region, the party and I were denied a seat because one man elected to conceal the truth'.

Surely the requirement for the Enhanced CRB check was put in place for exactly this reason?
In which case, assuming no election shenanigans, why does the list need "adjusting" now?

RF - Perhaps the membership's opinion of an excellent candidate is not compatible with the opinion of the hierarchy

What have the NEC been leaking, this time?
