The more people who know about the amateurish, dishonest way this party's elections are managed, the better for everyone.

The damage done to this party is not by members like Robin Page & John West who wish to clean- up the party, but by clowns like the cheerleading Bob FM who pretend (he canot honestly believe) that everything in the party is perfect

I like Gallimaufry's reponse on that blog:

Quote:
Robin Page is a thoroughly decent chap, a writer, publisher, farmer, conservationist, former local councillor, a peasant and proud of it who any party should be falling over themselves to have as a candidate. The problem is that as a lifelong farmer he knows the habits and mindsets of sheep and cattle inside out which puts party bureaucracy at a disdvantage to him.

I hadn't taken much notice of RP as a UKIP member, having read more about him - I think Gallimaufry is spot on.

I have read Christopher Gill's response to Robin Page's press release and it appears to be a very reasonable stand point. What do others think?

Christopher Gill's response on Iain Dale's blog:
Quote:
UPDATE: UKIP has hit back and sent me this statement from Christopher Gill, the overseer of the election process...
"Let us be absolutely clear about one thing - the reason that Robin Page is not a candidate for UKIP at the forthcoming EP election is because he failed to get his application in on time in spite of being given an extended deadline in which to do so. As a potential candidate it was entirely his responsibility to ensure that all relevant paperwork was deposited with Head Office on time - it was not!

"Robin Page can fantasise about conspiracies for as long as he likes but nothing alters the fact that, in spite of having been granted extra time, he excluded himself from the selection process by his own inaction. Robin Page had exactly the same amount of notice as all other candidates to get his application in by the close of nominations on 16th May but the plain fact of the matter is that he failed to do so, notwithstanding the leeway that he was given in which to do so.

UKIP Press Officer Tim Worstall adds: "The truth of the matter is that we gave Robin Page a fortnight of extra time, time unavailable to other candidates, such was our regard for him and our interest in his standing. That he failed to make use of it is something we regret but not, in our opinion, something that justifies his intemperate accusations of today."

It is only reasonable insofar that it ignores the allegations of Robin that UKIP employees said to Robin that they would sort his paperwork out.

What we have here is a grievance by a UKIP member. The inept leadership as usual just ignored the grievance, afterall its only the latest in a long list of members that feel shafted. The trouble is the grievance is by a UKIP member who is well known, therefore we now have bad publicity and internal turmoil where fewer activists in that area are going to bother.

Why is the UKIP Leadership so inept? They failed to adequately explain or give an apology or address the allegations. It was just left to fester. It now festers in the media. The new PR man Tim can do better. Issuing a press release that does not address the core allegation of employee mistakes just pours oil on burning waters.

Eric Wilson: This is a perfect example of presentation taking precedent over truth. Left to deal with the matter himself, Robin Page would of his own volition, have requested and submitted his own documentation. A member of Jeffrey Titford's staff, either of his own volition or on the instructions of others, contacted R.P. and said that they would welcome an application from him, to be considered as a prospective MEP. Robin P. requested that all relevant documentation was placed in the post. Due to physical vicissitudes resulting from an accident, they told his to request 'clearance' from the CRB and send it to HQ, with his cheque. They,Titford's office, would attend to all other documentary matters on his behalf. He was perfectly entiled to believe what he was being told was true, and permissible. When, subsequently, RP enquired at H.O. if they had received his cheque and CRB documentation, the reply was in the affirmative. What about the others documents from JT's Office, he asked, H.Q. knew nothing about them, and it was suggested that he approached Christopher Gill's office. He was told that he had received no documentation, and it was now too late for submissions. The failure by paid staff to do what they had promised, was the root cause of the problem; but banking the cheque had created a legal contract between Robin Page and UKIP.

A few questions. (1) Who had given permission to an EU paid staff to approach a UKIP member, and encourage him to apply for a MEPship? (2) Do you think that Robin Page, who nearly won the seat in the last MEP elections, losing by only FOUR votes was going to be allowed to win on this occasion? Robin P. believes that he was deliberately set-up in order to eliminate him as a threat. The evidence that he was, is as conclusive as you will ever find in human affairs. Christopher Gill, should have sought redress for RP, and not assist those engaged in this squalid episode.

Mark Croucher has a little shameless behaviour in the past

Just remind me:

Which party does Robin represent as a local councillor, given his eagerness to represent UKIP as an MEP?
Was it an illness or a research trip which made him late submitting documents? I understand the much longer, unedited press release (as opposed to the version posted here) made reference to both.

This is no comment on Robin's (who I always found to be a good chap) suitability or otherwise to represent UKIP, nor on the specific allegations, just a query.

Oh, you heard about the other press release too? I only heard mention of it after I started this thread. It's been suggested it was a draft sent by mistake?
