Eh? Sorry, but your first post on this thread said 'ditto'. I am now completely confused.

Bob FM, How am I supposed to keep up? Your posts make no sense. Am I part of some masonic ceremony?

Can anyone still believe that Mr West cares more for the cause than he does about himself. All we ever hear is me, me, me.

As for his latest bout of idiocy. The ballot papers sent out for the election clearly stated that there were 4 vacancies, not 5.

Furthermore if Nigel was no longer being counted as an elected member he would have ceased to be so before the 2007 NEC elections and have been replaced as such at those elections.

Bob, How do you know what I might or might not say? I think so fast that I'm not even certain what words are going to come out next?

Your comments aren't spewed out unwittingly? Your posts are carefully thought through? You're kidding me?

I can be persuaded otherwise but would not a transition phase reasonably & constitutionally legitimately end in 2009 when Farage would otherwise be subject to reelection under the new constitution. Unless the date of the end of the transition phase has already been announced, which I am not aware of, I do not follow that what Spon Plague said, "I would expect, by now, that Nigel would no longer be counted as elected member" can mean anything other than a personal expectation of Spon Plague rather than the actual rules of the party. UKIP.org shows the NEC term of office for Farage as being from 2006-2009. What other than his elected term as a member of the NEC would this "2006-2009" relate to?

Regarding the Lisa Duffy question I wonder if West has in mind the:

Rules for the conduct of NEC elections - UK Independence Party

Quote:
Rules for the conduct of NEC elections

...

3.5 Candidates who work in any paid capacity as an employee, self-employed or as a consultant, either directly or indirectly, for the Party, for Party members elected to public office or for political groups and organisations of which the Party holds membership (together called 'Connected Parties') may stand but shall not be permitted to continue with such paid work and hold elected office simultaneously. If any such person is elected to any such Party Office and does not terminate their work in any paid capacity with such Connected Parties then they shall be deemed to have resigned from such Elected Office.

...
That is just speculation on my part. If I were correct, I do not read in the above that Duffy was disqualified in any way for cohabiting with someone and continuing to cohabit after being elected nor disqualified for failing to declare being a member of staff, which she isn't. This party should live in the 21st Century and its rules interpreted accordingly.

I trust Mr West does not seek the removal of Lisa Duffy from the NEC because she happens to live with someone. That is not the sort of party I wish to support and despite my not being a lawyer I am pretty dubious that such a practice would be legal whatever some may interpret the rules as being. Seeking to disqualify Duffy because she lives with someone practically brings the party into disrepute in my opinion though I'm sure many here will argue the complete opposite.
