Perhaps you should take the time to perhaps look around you at this forum and laugh at the many passionate people who continue to type whilst Rome burns.

From Vortex:
'Wickersley, Rotherham Dc, 28/8/08 Result Labour 871 Con 821 BNP 538 UKIP 373 LibDem 191 Labour gain, maj 50. This ward was one where UKIP polled very well in May 2008, however there was no BNP candidate. The BNP fought the by-election and turned in an impressive performance, beating UKIP yet again. The combined votes of the two parties was 911, reinforcing disillusionment with the established parties. Nice to see the LibDems bottom of the pile.' Should UKIP members not doubt their leadership? |

UKIP should have done well here.
The very last time I canvassed for UKIP, the punters remembered me (Its 'im again, there must be a bloody election 'appenin!) and they remembered (very well) the candidate I had worked for in their last such election. But they had absolutely no idea what UKIP might be this time around. The BNP, who we beat hands down in 2004 in the first of the elections I refer to, wiped us out in the latest one... No surprise they beat us in Rotherham. Perhaps the leader might care to explain what the hell is going on here....? |

From October 15 2003 a ex UKIP members anti UKIP blog stated:-
'The fact that UKIP, which claims to be Britain's fourth largest political party, could only pick up seven council seats from the thousands up for election, after fielding nearly four hundred candidates in its best areas, should be a matter of much embarrassment. The British National Party by contrast picked up 13 - and always against strong opposition. ' Same old rubbish - thank god some of the people on this forum wern't around in 1940 SO we lose a minor battle - GET UP AND DUST YOURSELF DOWN AND GET STUCK INTO THE NEXT ONE!

During WWII, British generals who were not up to the Task were removed from their commands . . .

Excellent point chikrodah. It seems to me that if UKIP had been making a concerted effort over the past four years to strongly contest local council elections and had won considerably more than it has succeeded in doing so far, we would be in much better shape going into next years Euro elections. We would have a portion of the electorate acclimatized to voting for UKIP on other matters than the EU in addition to those who would vote for us solely on the issue of the EU. We would have a network of councillors who with some guidance of the party would have been getting the Party into the local media on a regular basis. And the morale of our activists would be much higher than it currently is. All these factors would help offset the fact that we won't have Kilroy Silk campaigning for us next year and the lack of large donors whom I suspect are being hoovered up by the Tories.

UKIP's first task should be to get into national government and get us out of the EU. Thats where the funding should be directed.
I would like to see legislation outlawing political parties from local government. I would like to see only independent councillors. That would make a huge difference. |

The reason UKIP hasn't done well in local elections, outside of a few small pockets, is summed up by the quote below..

So, to go back to UKIP's first task being to get into national government and get us out of the EU. Agreed 100% BUT HOW? If you don't think we should bother with local elections then where would you put your funding and your efforts? |
