I am fairly sure that he doesn't post here.

I've deleted the really juvenile, offensive and nasty bits of Legin's remarks about Ms Fuller - both in the original post and wherever I've spotted them quoted later in the thread. I'm told that Legin probably isn't GLW, but has probably cut and pasted a chunk of text from one of GLW's emails - which explains the inimitably (bad) style.

For the record (and for the paranoid):-

1) Legin is not GLW. And not John West either, for that matter.
2) GLW does not post on this forum under any guise.

C-steam then may I respectfully suggest that those who post what is clearly a GLW rant but do not give credit to that fact (plagiarism) are censured or better still the posts are removed, otherwise it would follow that exclusion from this forum is not a bar to the type of repulsive comments he makes.

Yes, it should have been in quotes and appropriately attributed. I don't have a problem with his emails being quoted if they are relevant to a particular thread, but obviously they have to stay within the rules of the forum. That's why some of the previous message was removed by a moderator and a warning issued.

Now, it's been a while since I read the Act and I do need to refresh my memory, but IIRC the Data Protection Act only applies to certain quite closely defined categories of data. These are broadly called "personal details" and include e.g. names, addresses, transaction details, medical records, etc. Further, the reason for which these details were taken can also be relevant to whether the DPA applies.

(Note that naming someone is not enough: the name has to be associated with other pieces of "personal data" to be applicable under the Act.)

Whether or not data is held in a database or not is irrelevant, e.g. the DPA applies to written records too.

Now, as I say, it's been a while, but I don't think that you will find that the John West video is covered under the Data Protection Act. Unless, of course, UKIP signed a contract with Mr West saying that it would be entirely private. Even then, it would not be a criminal case, but a civil case.
