The EC website actually has the party named incorrectly as 'United Kingdom Independent Party' on the main page.
Nothing new in there. Points to note: Membership: December 2004: 26,000 December 2005: 19,000 December 2006: 16,000 June 2007: 16,700 December 2007: 15,900 Notably £150K spent on the Welsh Assembly elections.

Nothing new maybe, except of course they put paid to the lie we have seen written here on a number of occasions that the party are losing members wholesale. a massive loss in 2006/7, 22. At a time when Labour and the other parties are millions in debt UKIP is solvent.

It will be interesting to see if UKIP can get another membership surge in the run up to the EU elections, as it did , I believe, in 2004.

The various campaigns the regions are running are having a massive effect. We are seeing a 15 to 20% response rate to our our various activities in the SW. Lets hope it's repeated else where.

The best means by which we can know the exact number of members, is to allow ONLY the Electoral Reform Services (Society), to send all the voting papers to members. If a generous supporter were to pay the cost, it would still not be allowed. Should the same person agree to pay the Party's accounting charges, with some reputable company, that offer would also be declined. Address the real problems, and forget about ignorant and fatuous comments.

We are sending out leaflets with reply slips. In my Branch alone we have had in excess of 100 returned in a couple of months since the election. My team are working on converting those into activists. Does your post has a point GC, other than as always to question without foundation that which most would conclude as fact as it is presented in our official return.

Conservatives' success story stalls - Telegraph
By Toby Helm and George Jones Last Updated: 12:50AM GMT 27 Dec 2006 Conservative membership has stalled during most of 2006 and may even have fallen over the last nine months, party insiders said yesterday. Although David Cameron saw 15,000 new members in the first weeks of his leadership, the momentum has not been maintained. While he has attracted new members, particularly younger people and women, by projecting a softer, "caring" image, some traditional Tories have left, with prominent defections to the UK Independence Party (Ukip). Party sources said it was possible that overall membership had dropped below the 290,000 level calculated last January. Ukip said last night its membership had risen from 16,000 to 17,000 since September, mainly due to disaffected Tories jumping ship. <edit by C-Steam: only the above is verbatim from the telegraph link. The source of the reminder of the post, below, does not appear to be from the telegraph (I stand to be corrected)> In December 2006 UKIP made a statement to the press claiming its membership had surged from 16,000 to 17,000 since September due to disaffected Conservatives jumping ship. The figures UKIP provided to the Electoral Commission actually showed this to be a blatant lie and membership was only 16,000! However by June 2007 membership had risen to 16,700 but dropped back to 15,900 in December 2007. UKIP as a political party has stagnated and is in gradual decline. It appears to have surges of new members but doesnt appear to be able to retain them!

I repeat 22 different, hardly the sort of decline the Conservatives themselves are acknowledging. However what those who condemn have to remember is that 5 years ago the party trailed at something like 50 to 1 in terms of members ration that clearly has dropped considerably.
