I've always thought the UK Independent Party were a bit slow in choosing the name. UKIP is spoken as 'You Kip' and to me has soporific connotations. How do you fellow forum members feel about a name change to say 'The Independents' or something which is less corrupted by speech/slang etc?
Just a thought... |

It took us long enough to get the public to recognise UKIP, we don't want to throw that away and have to start all over again.
I think the name is now well known with the British public, which was a major problem before. Now we have to convince the people that UKIP is the only party that really does want to keep Britain independent, democratic and free.

Name changes are usually disastrous and costly. I take it you are referring to UKIP, not the forum....
If UKIP were to change how about UK Revolutionary Council. My chosen position would be UKRC Commander Land Forces. |

I think that you may have confused the change of name for the forum, with this discussion about changing the entire Party name
![]() The discussion about the forum changing name and emphasis is here: http://www.ukipforum.co.uk/about302.html |

ops: Whoa! Uncle! Uncle! - I said it was only a thought!! But talking about name changes, what about UKIP party secretary, Tony Stone, objecting to the forum and asking it to cease using the party name in association with the site. Hence the forum is changing to a more general anti-EU forum, and will now be the "UK Independence Forum" instead. A rose by any other name... |

When I first joined the party I asked why we didn't change our 'brand name' as UKIP has UK in it made it seem like a 'National front' type party... I was told that having invested 10 years in the 'brand' that members would not be keen on changing it. Which is fair enough.
However, since the June elections I have noticed we have expanded the name to UK Independence Party which I like.
