British-Conservatism is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Stip Local Government Bandits of their power.

To save tens of billions on waste this country should reduce council powers to the following -

Waste management, waste collection, libraries, transport planning, consumer protection, licensing, cemeteries and crematoria.

The following should be taken over by central government.
All Pee Cee groups and ethnic bodies should be scraped and all non-jobs like Global Warming officer, Ethnic diversity co-ordinator etc should be scraped.

The following should be handed over to central government -

Housing, council tax collection, education, social services, consumer protection.

Council tax should be scraped and paid for through direct taxation and saving made in the reforms plus the cancellation of foreign aid and immigrant funding.

I think there is an argument for both centralisation and decentralisation. Advocating one or the other is not, I believe, the solution.

Our central government is just as corrupt as our councils, at least with many councils we might get an oasis of sanity in a sea of madness. If everything is in the hands of Westminster then we will have universal madness.

That may be but they are only 650 odd corrupt scumbags at Westminster they are 20,000 councillors at least not to mention all the non-jobs they create.
In Eastern Europe they don’t even have a local tax and local government has very little power at all yet they don’t have "universal madness".
Local democracy here is a joke no one knows who their councillor is and only about 20% of people vote.

I do like the way that most of those incharge of councils get paid more than the Prime Minsiter. Wasn't the leader of Birmingham council the highest paid in the country?

Think how much money would be saved if Councils were removed.
Purchasing departments no longer required as it can be done centrally by computer.
Finance departments no longer required as it can be done centrally by computer.
No cars or drivers required for the mayor.

Any more savings?

So BC you've never been to Eastern Europe then and have never dealt with any members of the local executive. You are unaware of the powers of local councillors in any eastern European country and have no idea how each country runs its structures.

In fact, with the exception of North Korea, we have the most centralised financial control in the world.

Where there is centralised control of policy, such as Belarus, there is 'universal madness'. You have to go to the various countries and see how they operate to realise a sweeping statement such as yours is utterly wrong.

Your system is far, far too reliant upon computers.

So I take it then, you're opposed to the federal systems in the USA, Australia, Canada etc.?

And who is going to be available to answer the concerns of local residents? The local MP's surgery wouldn't be able to cope, and that's assuming he's not away all the time at Westminster dealing with all the extra issues.
