A rampant free market economy is far better.

I'm curious to know how Socialism would supposedly have averted this crisis?

Secondly, I'm against telling people where to put their own money. If public authorities lose money by putting it into a foreign bank, then they must step up and take responsibility for that. There's no guarantee their money would be safe in a British bank either - Northern Rock/Bradford & Bingley? Or even HBOS?

A bank is a business after all, and thus can go bust just like any other. I don't believe in any of this "too big to fail" nonsense.

As the last few days have shown - these "bailouts" are pointless. The markets have not settled down. The markets are going through a correction, and we must let it happen. It's bringing the price of houses, oil and commodities back down, so it's actually doing us a favour.

It would have been safe in a Nationalised British bank

A bank owned by the British government couldnt fail

A bailout to a nationalised bank (not that we would have needed one) would have been far cheaper as no money would have been going to shareholders etc

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but A) shareholders in banks that were forcibly nationalised didn't get a penny. B) Banks which take the recapitalisation option being put forward by the British government are going to have tough conditions posed on them in terms of bonuses and dividends.

There's also no guarantee a nationalised bank is safe - firstly, the State can also go bust. Secondly, if a nationalised bank guaranteed savings all you're seeing is taxpayers' money being used to refund the taxpayer their savings. This doesn't exactly make them better off, as they're effectively paying more in tax to pay their own savings back to themselves.

It means more revenue for the British government and less for foreign multinationals.
A far better system.
