The Liberal Party has exactly 30 councillors at district level and above. (27 at district/borough/city level plus 3 county councillors). It also has some parish and town councillors but I don't know how many.

There's a list at this link, though it misses out one councillor in Wyre Forest:

So when will you be launching your attack on this Party, Danny Boy? Two months from now?

That's your normal behavoural pattern, isn't it? Praise them up for a while then shift ground.

Sorry Danny, The same as Tom I have no idea on our membership figures although we are seeing increases in Southampton mostly from UKIP.

Danny,this is a guess - between 450 and 500 members.
The Liberal Party accounts for 2007, state £1,042 was received centrally, and £1,421 via associations for membership; giving a total of £2,463. The recommended subscription is £15, the minimum £5, so assuming the majority of members pay the minimum that would give a membership of between 450 and 500 members. In 1999 the party had over one thousand members and about the same number of councillors as today.

Membership figures aren’t everything, the RSPB has a membership larger than all the political parties put together, but it would be hard pushed to get them to do anything other than pay a subscription; it’s the number of activists that is key.

We know the party has 30 principle council councillors; four are defectors, so that’s 26. The 2007 Liberal Assembly raised £280 in registration fees, and the appeal raised £122 – I’m guessing the registration fee was £10 in which case 28 people attended Assembly. Which gives you an idea of the activist base of the party.
