Are you young Liberals happy with your parties "World Authority plans"? Seems like a lot of power being handed to very few people! Not my cup of tea.

kernow

If you want to start a debate about Liberal Party policy then please start a thread regarding the policy you want to debate.

In the mean time lets keep this thread on topic.

Nice graphic. I wonder if you are mixing up the Young Liberals (long dormant, but now showing signs of life thanks to Ryan) with some other organisation?

Whenever the word 'relaunch' is used you know the outfit is on the skids.

What was that Tom said about 2% of the vote? A 'wilde' dream for the Liberal Party I would guess.

Did you miss that bit, Mike? The Young Liberals haven't been a functioning organisation for years. Ryan and others who are trying to relaunch it basically have a clean slate. It'll be interesting to see how they do!

Yes. The original Young Liberals were famous for their 'Gay Lib' dimension. I certainly haven't forgotten that.

In the Young Conservatives we had our own ways of dealing with that particular problem.

I think you'll find that the Young Liberals have been going strong since the sixties right up till today in Torbay. Torbay YLs continued to use the name Young Liberals after the merger. Because there was no YSD branch to merge with, nor any con Libs to be confused with, the branch just carried on as Young Liberals.

They had always been more moderate than the NLYL (even so, Torbay's Nick Pannell was NLYL Vice President). Torbay YLs were embarrassed when the NLYL conference was held in Torbay with motions to abolish the monarchy.

Torbay YLs have played a significant pat in the political life of the Bay. The two top contenders for the 2005 Mayor of Torbay election were former Torbay YLs (Conservative Nick Bye, and Lib Dem Nick Pannell). Former Torbay YL member and Honorary President of Torbay YLs, Adrian Sanders is the Lib Dem MP for Torbay. The Leader of the Lib Dem group on the council is a former YL.

They sound like a good bunch. Maybe they might like to join up to our revived Young Liberal organisation nationally?
