I remember a boy called Leon came to my school in 1949,he was from a Dr. Barnardo's home in the area.

He was black and one of the first ever seen in those parts at that time.

He turned out to be a great pal of mine for a year or so,then they sent him somewhere else overnight.

Never had time to wish him luck or say goodbye even.

I wish I could track him down again, maybe via Dr. Barnardo's Homes?

In Eurasia it doesn't matter if you are an English, Russian, Palestinian, Pakistani or Japanese we were once "Indians" not long times ago.

I have.

After I was assured it was "just like Glastonbury" by a friend of African extraction.

It isn't.

The Romans were a 'minority' here, as were the Anglo-Saxons. When the Roman Military left around 410AD it is virtually certain that the mass of camp followers left with them. This can be found in the degrading of the coinage and buildings. Towns, which had been open prior to 410 had to build defensive walls. I was taught that the Anglo-Saxons were hired as mercenaries by the Romano-British to protect them. From whom?

The indigenous British population, still living in their huts, seem to have rejected the remainder of the Romans - thus giving the impression that the stayed true to their own culture while the Romans were here. The Anglo-Saxons, as has been mentioned, were not too different from the Brits, so integration would not have been a problem.

More recent immigration had seen small numbers of people come into the country, each hoping to find a new life here.

What is now happening is MASS immigration, not because people want to come here for the culture or integrate with British society, but to cream out of the system whatever they can. Soft-touch Britain is too tempting an opportunity for many people to pass up.
This is also true of the Normans, oft featured in lists of immigrant groups (like the Harrying of the North was some sort of successful multicultural experiment ). In fact the "immigrants" amounted to a few thousand warriors who maintained an independent society for about three centuries, many of whose lines ended completely in various ill advised contests with the monarchy. In other words apart from a few raddled aristos the Norman Conquest contributed almost nothing to the British gene pool.

The only demographically significant immigration events in British history (as opposed to prehistory) were the "Saxon episode" and to a lesser extent the "Viking" "migrations". Neither of which provide happy precedents for the current, well chose your own term.

Look at the names on any war memorial to realise that this country was not multi-cultural until after the 2nd World War.

Behind every name is a man (mostly volunteers) who would turn in his grave to see what the politicians had done to the country they loved.
