Does this list represent an increase, decrease or a reflection of stability in recent years?

It goes up and down, but from what I've read the number seems to have been generally stable for a long time. Numbers are slightly up on a year ago, due to a by-election win in Ryedale and three defectors in Devon, offset by one seat lost in Wyre Forest in the locals a few weeks ago.
