That sort of level of misunderstanding is close to genius.
I thought the Nationalist government of Spain under Franco balanced its budget perfectly. At least thats what the UN Year Books show. They had virtually no international debts (a major feat given that the communist government had sent the entire Spanish gold reserves to the Crimea during the Civil War - from where they never returned) and a very stable society without pornography and all the filth which makes western society degenerate. You might like to explain how Spain suffered from "poverty". (No hype please). As for international contempt, are you taking the EU line now, so recently taken against Austria, that if the 'International Community' don't like a particular government then it is unacceptable. What a pity they didn't take that line with the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc, eh? And now everyone is sucking up to Red China. Methinks the great 'International Community' has a few problems with their morals.

The Partido Popular under Rajoy has an increasingly patriotic, or nationalist, element to it, appealing to the sense of "Spanishness" and making strong use of national symbols such as the Spanish flag. Prior to the national celebrations to the Spanish Heritage Day, Rajoy made a speech asking Spaniards to "privately or publicly" display their pride in their nation and to honour their flag, an action which received some criticism from many political groups of the Congress.

Riots? I think we have something for that. I believe it's called "The Police force".

The PP is at the same stage as the British Tories were after their 2nd and 3rd defeats. Although they have a solid base, they need to capture the so-called centre ground and are becoming increasingly socially liberal and generally aping most other parties in Europe.... sadly, they've always been very pro-EU - the ignorance of the Spanish on this issue is something that defies belief... for a country that was under dictatorship until 1975, 30 years later they've surrended so much of that liberty!

Be interesting to see how the political 'elite' responds... in a way, i suspect, they quite like it when people vote for ugly parties - it reinforces their belief that democracy is dangerous and that they know best!

An interesting result in Austria. The last time this happened the EU said the choice of the electorate was unacceptable to them and imposed sanctions. In fact they treated democratic Austria far worse than they treated the countries of the Soviet Bloc. Speaks volumes.
