CAMPAIGN for an INDEPENDENT BRITAIN

NEWS RELEASE

Friday 10 October 2008: Release time immediate

We won't salute their flag or sing their anthem!

Independence campaigners denounce latest move towards 'European nationhood'

The European Parliament voted today (Oct 10) to bring closer its goal of 'European nationhood' by formally adopting Beethoven's Ode to Joy as the European 'national anthem', to be played at the opening of parliament sessions, and the EU flag as its official flag, to be flown from all parliament buildings.

The Campaign for an Independent Britain (CIB) immediately denounced the vote, and called on "all patriotic British people to stand up for Britain, not Europe". The MEPs' vote, however, was hailed by the euro-federalist European People's Party (EPP) as "bringing European citizens closer to the common Europe".

The CIB called it "confirmation that the aim of the majority of MEPs, from all countries, is to create a single European State."

CIB spokesman Andy Smith said: "The leaders of the EU deliberately kept the commitment to formally adopting the European anthem and flag out of the Lisbon Treaty, so that they could pretend the Treaty was not about imposing a European State. But now the cat is out of the bag. We know that they want the trappings of nationhood as well as the powers."

He added: "I for one will not be standing up for their 'national' anthem or saluting their blue-and-gold flag! These are not the symbols of true nationhood but of an artificial State, which is being imposed on Britain - and on the other historic nations of Europe - in a thoroughly dishonest, underhand and undemocratic manner."

Interesting ,they couldn`t wait until the Treaty of Lisbon is properly ratified ,obviously they think that they are home and dry .
I hope they have made their flags flame proof !

If the EU flag is standard size then if it is cut up carefully it will make one full size toilet roll.

I support the flag and anthem. Lisbon Treaty or not, they've both been in use for years now anyway.

So have GSTQ and the Cross of St. George.

Any chance that you might tell me why these two trappings of state, which by the way, were never official until the "EU parliament" adopted them a few days ago, enjoy your support.

Or do you just like the tune and the colours of the flag AKA "the ring of shyte".

I support EU integration, and would like Europe to be one "state" one day.
