I've got nothing against imperial, I just find metric far easier to work with. I certainly wouldn't mind losing the extra 68ml, provided it became slightly cheaper as a result.

It must really hurt you that pint glasses now come "CE" marked instead of being marked with the St. Edward's Crown.

I don't suppose you would care to name the landlords that you accuse of watering down their spirits, they might want to seek their "pound" of flesh in a court of law. Of course you won't - you're a European Citizen.

No good hoping against bad things happening, your EU Commission, as soon as they get the chance, will put a tax on your favourite tipple. Don't takle my word for it, ask around the countries that have joined the euro, you will find that there was a big increase in prices.

Er, no. Our professional standards are slightly higher than that.

It is like the silly smoking ban. We are talking about private property, if people don't want to go to an establisment using imperial measures they won't. We don't need the state and certainly not the EU to intervene.

Wrong. A common set of measurements is vital for the market to function correctly and for consumers to be able to easily compare what they're getting and at what price - so that they can decide if they want to shop elsewhere or not.

It's no good having one pub selling a pint, one selling 500ml, another selling 0.125 gallons and another selling 20 fluid ounces etc etc.

Plus you'd never get stamped equipment for such measures.

A common set of EU measures means that a) I can decide more easily if I'm getting ripped off in other EU member states, and b) make my life so much easier when importing things from other EU states.

And no doubt when we finally do have to go all foreign it will be rounded down to 1/2 litre for the price of a pint. Vive la difference!

I'd prefer £2/12/- for a good old fashioned pint, although I'd rather it were 10d like when Ah were a lad. You could almost buy a barrel for 52 bob in those days and still have change for a packet of Woodbine. But I suppose if foreigners and today's young haven't got the brain power to handle sterling then we'll have to make it easier for them.

I'd rather have the Euro (€).

Would you like a referendum then? Here and now. In or out.
