Default Sunspots

Here is something I was trying to explain the other day to the believers of manmade global warming (you know who you are!) Anyway lets look at some real 'proper' science.

Quote:
The weaker solar wind appears to be due to changes in the sun's magnetic field, but the cause is unknown. Sunspots, which normally fluctuate in 11-year cycles, are at a virtual standstill. In August, the sun created no visible spots. The last time that happened: June 1913.

The results of the Ulysses spacecraft's mission, according to Jet Propulsion Laboratory project scientist Ed Smith, show that "we are in a period of minimal activity that has stretched on longer than anyone anticipated."

JPL are no backstreet scientists, and even they don't know why this is.

I thought the Little Ice Age coincided with the Maunder minimum - therefore, it should be getting very cold now.

Yet worldwide temperature measurements still say the Global temperature is increasing

Yes and since 1998 apparently this is what has been happening. The Maunder minimum is a 30-year period as defined, since it is the period the discoverer took the measurements, but if you look at the graph it actually stretches for at least 50 years, with the effects stretching across an entire century. So I think it is early days to be establishing trends. This sunspot irregularity seemed to have stared only a few years ago with record-breaking sunspots of absolutely unbelievable magnitude. Something appears to be going on inside the sun. What that is no one knows because no one has been inside the sun to find out.

here is a SF and science fact writer who has worked with JPL whose name and work I have mentioned before (only for certain interested parties to trash)

Incorrect.
The light from the explosion would reach us in about 8 minutes, but the explosion itself would take considerably longer.

And no-one's yet explained how such a small star as the Sun is going to explode anyway. :-/

Lotsov:
I am quite sure that I have posted links to studies and also my own analyses of data showing that the oft-claimed decrease in temperature since 1998 has not occurred.

Well you see, they say the sunspot activity has fallen off, but a few years back it was record breaking. So neither the earth warming up or cooling down really strengthens or weakens the sunspot argument. I think, if there were any effect it would more likely be seen as uncharacteristic weather conditions. The sun appears to be as erratic as the weather on earth, but we don't understand it, although this might change as we send probes up there to measure what can be measured.

What amazes me is the confidence we are told the climate modellers have in their predictions, yet they don't even understand the mechanisms involved for the primary source of energy driving the system. It's simply dishonest, and effort would be much better rewarded by looking at stuff that is not known about and to try and establish what is going on, and only then can we ever contemplate modelling with any degree of confidence. I’m against this over simplification; it’s not black and white.

citation needed and define considerably not that it makes a deal of difference to life on Earth

The sun is a smaller then average star and the theory is that it will become a small red giant (i.e. a type of star and at the less massive end of the type) it will expand outward and throw off some of it's mass before becoming a white dwarf star

Sun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

pretty much explains it (life cycle) and many other things and cites sources below
