I think our sun sits between the two. It's about half the size of a star that could become a theoretical black hole. It's like a lot of things in physics and astronomy, no one is that sure. I have read and heard many people say the sun could end up like this, but fashions change. It's like the age of the universe. You could look it up on Wikipedia and get a figure, but the trouble is the figure keeps changing. Also another factor is to do with stars and their makeup since the elements get shifted up the periodic table as they go through different stars. We have quite a few large elements in our vicinity, like the metals and so forth, but a lot of stars are just very light elements like hydrogen and helium and in the early stages of the cycle. It fascinates me to think that we have all been through many stars, what with the different chemicals that make up our bodies.

And yes, point taken. I neglected to consider the radiation that would be released. ![]()

The thing is though that these sunspots are like giant volcanoes, and like here on earth, even though we are so much closer to the action and that our planet is so much less volatile, it is still pretty much impossible to know when one is going to happen, and indeed the same with earthquakes. All we get are a few seconds warning as the tremors start, and that is despite the huge interest humans have in making predictions. If they could, then no one would get trapped and killed when they go off.
So really, to even measure the stresses in the geology under our feet is very difficult and I'd say impossible if it were 93 million miles away, 6000 degrees on the surface and about 25 million degrees underneath it. All so-called scientists can do is play the numerology game. They can look at graphs of historical activity and see if they can guess the numbers. That's not proper science though, even though it is called science. Science needs to be able to model a system mathematically, but this is not always possible. Non-linear systems are the dread of the scientist. There is little they can say about them; indeed it becomes a 'descriptive science’, which for many is an oxymoron. At the very least it ranks as a soft science, e.g. things like sociology where it’s all based on statistics and focus groups.

And the point he made was false, relating it as he did to a supernova, something which our Sun cannot and will not end with.

Some new data for you sunspot enthusiasts. The heliosphere is shrinking. Now it might just have some effect or have some common cause connecting it to the weird sunspot activity.

However, it would certainly have an effect on the solar wind mechanism and thereby have an interaction with our weather system, as this has already been established scientifically. It's a good thing they have a probe up there taking measurements, and one day it will all fit together and we might even have improved weather forecasting as a result. The man-made global warming fanatics should take a step back and realise there are other contenders to explain the weather patterns we are experiencing, and some with more likelihood of being responsible than a 0.12% change in greenhouse effects due to man made carbon, where the atmospheric carbon dioxide level is known to widely fluctuate over our history.

As the SUN ages it gets hotter - nothing unique about that, so the extremely long term trend will be hotter but by then I would hope we have left Earth either that or we have committed racial suicide
