Killer dad made me fold Fathers 4 Justice
By CAROLINE IGGULDEN
THE founder of Fathers 4 Justice yesterday said he decided to close the group after a dad who phoned it killed himself and his kids.
Matt O’Connor said he had nightmares about Brian Philcox, 53, who gassed Amy, seven, and Owen, three, in a car on Father’s Day.
Controversial dads’ rights campaigner Matt had spoken to Philcox days earlier.
He said: “People intimated we were somehow responsible for his actions.
“I had a two-minute conversation with him. I had no idea that was what he was going to do.
“I felt I had become responsible for the behaviour of every father.”
He also revealed son Daniel, 12, asked him to quit so they could spend more time together.
Stunts
Matt said: “I realised the balance was all wrong. My children are the most precious thing.”
The marketing exec came up with the idea of “superhero” stunts after the group started in 2003.
Protesters dressed as Batman scaled Buckingham Palace and an M25 traffic sign near Heathrow to call for dads’ rights to see their kids.
Others climbed Stonehenge and York Minster and threw a flour “bomb” at then-PM Tony Blair.
But the group closed briefly in 2006 after claims of a plot to kidnap Mr Blair’s son.
Matt, of Winchester, Hants, said he had no idea about the plan, which he blasted as “sick”.
The dad — who also has Alexander, ten, with ex-wife Sophie and son Archie, two, with partner Nadine — is set to launch an ice cream brand. He said there were plans for a Fathers 4 Justice film.
Philcox, of Runcorn, Cheshire, fought estranged wife Lyn for custody before the June tragedy.

Is this really the last we'll hear of Fathers 4 Justice? Don't bet on it!
Bad pennies have a habit of turning up, over and over again.
