Here you go. Copied this from the Market Rasen Mail. I guess it was inevitable.
Tory victory strengthens district grip Tories win Middle Rasen by-election Date: 10 October 2008 THE CONSERVATIVE'S hold on West Lindsey District Council is stronger this morning, Friday, after the party won another seat - their 21st. Geoffrey Martyn Wiseman was victorious in the Middle Rasen by-election after 400 voters in the village, Osgodby, Owersby, Usselby and West Rasen chose him over the UKIP candidate Steve Pearson (125 votes). The result was the choice of a turnout of only 22.54 and there was an unusually high number of 12 spoilt papers - possibly in protest at the two-horse race involving parties on the right of the fence after the Liberal Democrats failed to field a candidate. With a strengthened hold on the district’s affairs, the Conservatives are firmly in power for a further 20 months at least as the next scheduled round of district elections is not until May 2010. |

I agree Komerad
However I went along yesterday to talk with these 2 guys, before I made my mind up. They weren't there and consequently I was in no position to decide who I thought might be the better candidate for us. As I said yesterday, I did the eenie meeney approach. I normally vote for the person who I think can most good, even if the party controls what they do. |

Thats the thing really. You would think that they would make the effort to be there for the whole day. Not a lot to ask for really.
And yes, more than anybody, the UKIP guy should definately have been there showing his interest in the community. The gap in terms of votes wasn't that great. Who knows, a nice smile and a positive approach from him, just might have swung the tables. |

No one cares about local elections thats why I would strip local authorities of all real power and bring in PR for whats left.

UKIP secured the votes of around 5 people out of every 100 in the constituency. The Conservatives 18 out of every 100. The other 77% who were registered to vote didn't vote.
Very rarely does UKIP get more than 5 people out of every 100 on the electoral roll voting for it. Usually it is more like 1 or 2, if that. Even at its peak in 2004, when it achieved over 16% of the national vote in the Euro elections, after allowing for turnout this was still only 6 out of every 100 on the electoral roll ++++++ Tory victory strengthens district grip ...Geoffrey Martyn Wiseman was victorious in the Middle Rasen by-election after 400 voters in the village, Osgodby, Owersby, Usselby and West Rasen chose him over the UKIP candidate Steve Pearson (125 votes).
