A local council ward By-Election is to take place next month in the District of East Staffordshire (an area which covers the eurosceptic areas of Burton-on-Trent and the racecourse town of Uttoxeter).
Polling will be on 14th February 2008 in the Stretton ward (just to the north of Burton-on-Trent) where one of the three Conservative councillors has resigned for personal reasons. East Staffordshire District Council (ESDC) has exactly the same geographical boundaries as the Burton constituency (one of the few local authorities in the UK to cover exactly the same locality as a Parliamentary seat). The seat is Labour-held but elected a Conservative MP for most of the post-war years until the europhile Major nearly half-destroyed the Conservative Party. Fortunately the obsessively pro-EU Liberal Dim Party do badly in Burton - and in most of the nearby constituencies .Labour controlled the ESDC for nearly two decades but the Conservatives won the council back several years ago. Expect a straight Conservative-Labour battle at Stretton on the 14th of next month with a Conservative victory in the ward likely. Stretton is partly a mini-new town just to the north of Burton-on-Trent (a marginal Labour-held constituency with a long tradition of being eurosceptic and returning Conservative MPs) made of mostly private housing situated close to the Birmingham - Derby A38 motorway. All the expectations are that it will return the Conservative candidate in the local ward By-Election on 14th of next month with a strong battle for second place from Labour and the BNP. This is not a constituency where the pro-immigration europhile Liberal Dims do well (thankfully) and one hopes that they are humiliated
in the coming vote at Stretton. |

Quote:
I believe that Mr. Buxton founded the Popular Alliance with the alleged support of Mr. Tony Bennett who was allegedly political assistant to Mr. Robert Kilroy-Silk MEP during the very earliest part of Kilroy's first period in the rival Parliament in Brussels. I may be wrong on this, but isn't this the same Mr. Tony Bennett who is solicitor to the man whose son drowned in Michael Barrymore’s swimming pool? We will find out how PAP perform electorally at Stretton in 27 days' time: as I wrote earlier, all the expectations are that the Conservatives will retain the seat with a close race between Labour and the BNP for second place. Perhaps PAP will beat the europhile Liberal 'Democrats' in the Stretton vote next month. |
