Down by almost half (in percentage terms) in just 9 months - and in a contest in which UKIP and the English Democrats (ED) were not there to take anti-EU and pro-England votes away from your party. 13% vote share for the Popular Alliance - sounds like a good result: until it is compared to last May's result for your party. Had UKIP contested the ward of Stretton at Burton this week, your Popular Alliance would have been lucky to get 5% of the vote in what is your strongest ward in the country. And if the English Democrats had contested Stretton this week as well as UKIP, your Popular Alliance would have scraped through with about a 3% share. |

"Not a bad result" (your words above) - so you admit that it wasn't a good result for your party considering your vote is down by almost half in percentage terms in the Stretton/Burton ward in just nine months?
Just a reminder in case you have forgotten: May 2007 Stretton/Burton result for the Popular Alliance: Popular Alliance 621 (23.8%) February 2008 Stretton/Burton result for the Popular Alliance: Popular Alliance 233 votes (13%) So the largest fall in support of any political party at Stretton/Burton this week was for your Popular Alliance. Down by 388 votes from 621 votes last May to 233 votes now (the Popular Alliance losing almost half in percentage terms at Stretton two days ago). Last edited by Britannist; 16-02-2008 at 08:30 PM. |

As I wrote earlier - had UKIP contested the Stretton ward this week your Popular Alliance would have lost votes to UKIP. After all, you seem to have lost votes to just about everyone else who put up candidates haven't you? It would be interesting to see how your Popular Alliance (PA) performed away from Stretton where your candidate and founder Mr. Buxton lives. You could find it much harder to get 13% of the vote in other wards away from your founders base. It is time these small parties who claim to be eurosceptic shut themselves down - they are splitting the anti-EU vote and harming the electoral prospects of the anti-EU movement. If the people in such parties really want out of the EU or are really pro-England they should join UKIP and/or the English Democrats. On the basis of the size and speed in the fall in support for the Popular Alliance at Stretton - down from 621 votes to 233 votes in 9 months - it would mean that if the loss of votes continues at their present rate and speed the Popular Alliance would have no votes at all in Stretton by the start of Summer of this year. Mr. Buxton, the Popular Alliance candidate at Stretton, would find that he will do better at the polls standing for UKIP - UKIP got 18% of the vote in a recent local ward By-Election (higher than the 13% Mr. Buxton polled at Stretton earlier this week). I guess most of the people wittering away in a forum such as this, are back bedroom politicians who commit to nothing but their own ego. There are some extremely childish comments posted here - typical of why so many people refuse to get involved in politics these days.
If the fact that Popular Alliance doesn't display a "The" or a "Party" is the most constructive thing that they can suggest then perhaps they should get back in the play pen. Wittering away on a PC, in pompous self importance and criticising all and sundry gains 0 votes, so compare that with 231 who actually got their backsides to vote for someone who works hard for the parish. Nobody joins the BNP to not vote, so they will always have a turn out. UKIP is such a tired concept that no-one would bother heading out on a wet, cold night to vote for them. The drop in Popular Alliance votes is far less than the drop in people who turned out to vote in the previous full council election. Only 18% voted this time around in the minor by-election, whereas over 55% voted in the main council elections. Our share of the vote dropped a lot less in those terms, but I agree, motivating people to get off their backsides and believe in something is a very hard thing to do. Perhaps if voting was compulsary, then a chap named "none of the above" would be sat in 10 Downing Street. |

Veelad, what are the PA actually doing in terms of promotion? I've posted on the forum and e-mailed Mr Buxton and received no response.
The party is well designed and has some good ideas but that accounts for nothing if 99% of people don't know who they are!

My apologies Englishman, as I mentioned in an earlier post, we do everything on the cheap, and our website is no exception
We have had some terrible problems with the server and the script over the last 10 months, and its been a challenge to to keep the website visible without bloody error codes flashing up everywhere the module for sending messages on the contact page was disabled for a while and we had a bit of a dry spell. It should all be working fine now (crossed fingers) if you would like to try again, Popular Alliance - Contact or if you wish, Brian's email is b.buxton@popularalliance.org I will tell him to keep an eye out for your email questions hope this helps Vee |
