Exclamation At last!!!!

Hurrah for David Davis - his brave stand is a blow for freedom and democracy. We MUST stop this continual erosion of our civil liberties and interference in our personal lives...ID cards, micro chipped dustbins, surveillance into all aspects of our lives...I hope he is voted back with a massive majority. ALL political parties should take note, I don't think the British people will take any more of this despotic, undemocratic and autocratic government. Contact your local MP and make sure that they know exactly where you stand on this issue.

So how long do you think it will be until we are all living in a world reminiscent of Dark Angel?

I'm trying to work out whether the Tory party are really supporting Mr Davies or are merely pretending to support him.

I strongly suspect the latter.

Please Mr Davis, set up your own political party now and leave the Tory traitors to their own devices !

While not generally a tory supporter I have to say that Davis is one of the declining number of MPs I actually feel able respect.
The conservative party would probably be more certain of success in the next election then they are now had it's members voted for Davis and his substance in his leadership campaign before Cameron and his style.

I wouldn't bet money on it! Remember New Labour has flourished since 1997 totally on style and no substance! They may be on the way out now but they managed to "sucker" Joe and Jane public for ten of the last eleven years!

If he really cared so much about the feelings on the electorate, why didn't he pull this stunt when the 'Treaty' Referendum debate was defeated?

New Labour have flourished partly on substance, yes, but also because last conservative administration brought this country to it's knees and created a culture of greed and selfishness, something which voters arn't keen to forget.

He could have done this over any issue, but most people care more about their civil liberties then european politics. TBH, it's nice to see somebody make a stand at the expence of their own career for once (bear in mind he lost his shadow cabinet position over this)

Good point.

Maybe he is pro-EU ? Anyone know ? I don't know much about his views.

If so that would be a contradiction in his support of liberty.

But I'm not going to start knocking him too much - he did something good.
