Certainly there are some problems within the Conservative Party, but I'm confident David Cameron and his team can sort things out.

Even when I was very active with the Tories in the heady days of Thatcherism there was the occasional glitch. One day a great friend of mine, an ultra right wing MP somewhat reminiscent of the TV comic character Alan B'stard, was found senseless in a Soho gutter. He had been thrown out of a show called 'Chicks with Dicks' at the famous transvestite cabaret 'Madame Jo Jo's'.

Apparently he was totally rat-arsed. Sadly it proved impossible to keep that story out of the papers.

Like so many 'Eurosceptic' Tories I suspect David Davis' euroscepticism is little more than a political cloak, a garment of convenience to be worn whenever there is some political capital to be made from it, and cast aside at all other times. If he's so damn anti - EU why isn't he loudly calling for Britains withdrawral from the EU monster? Why doesn't he do a Bob Spink and defect to UKIP?

As a further underlining (undermining?) of Davis' euroscepticism I should point out that he one of John Major's whips when Maastrict was forced through the house against the wishes of both the majority of Conservative MPs and the British public.

When he was Europe Minister he was known as "Monsieur Non".
