It really wasn't that bad. He managed to answer the questions and didn't sound like an idiot. That's a result in my book. Don't forget that he is untrained - people can learn to improve their media performances. I certainly wouldn't fail someone on the basis of that interview.

UKIP is somewhat limited in its options. Apparently there were some areas where there were so few applicants they didn't even bother with the media interviews.

I am sure that there are some decent people in there too, but there are, as you say, a number of individuals engaging in some rather underhand self-promotion. There are also questions being raised about the selection procedure itself, the suitability of some candidates, the eligability of Marta Andreason, nepotism and in the South West they don't appear to trust the central party not to rig the votes. All in all a great start.
