Probably for the same reason that you (the Popular Alliance) only spent a small amount on your campaign for the February 2008 Stretton ward By-Election - UKIP is a small party and has little money. It is also preparing to channel its resources at next year's EU Elections when it has seats to defend in most parts of the English part of the UK.

As I wrote earlier - had UKIP contested the Stretton ward this week your Popular Alliance would have lost votes to UKIP. After all, you seem to have lost votes to just about everyone else who put up candidates haven't you?

It would be interesting to see how your Popular Alliance (PA) performed away from Stretton where your candidate and founder Mr. Buxton lives. You could find it much harder to get 13% of the vote in other wards away from your founders base.

It is time these small parties who claim to be eurosceptic shut themselves down - they are splitting the anti-EU vote and harming the electoral prospects of the anti-EU movement. If the people in such parties really want out of the EU or are really pro-England they should join UKIP and/or the English Democrats.

On the basis of the size and speed in the fall in support for the Popular Alliance at Stretton - down from 621 votes to 233 votes in 9 months - it would mean that if the loss of votes continues at their present rate and speed the Popular Alliance would have no votes at all in Stretton by the start of Summer of this year.

Mr. Buxton, the Popular Alliance candidate at Stretton, would find that he will do better at the polls standing for UKIP - UKIP got 18% of the vote in a recent local ward By-Election (higher than the 13% Mr. Buxton polled at Stretton earlier this week).
